About

Born 1977, London, UK

I am a full time artist based at Wimbledon Art Studios in London, working mainly in oil paints on stretched canvas and linen.

My recent work comprises paintings of building hoardings and construction timbers symbolising transition and growth in the city. Ideas of the temporary and permanent, population growth and decline, energy consumption and expenditure, union and passing  are explored with splintered and burnt expanding maps, balancing helixes and multiplied scrawls of initials and hearts.

These ideas developed while I made city paintings of Soho, Piccadilly and recognisable landmarks. I aspire to capture the feel of a place rather than present a photographic snapshot.

Previous works were dominated by portraiture and figure painting often with a narrative inspired by stories, myths and old master painters- particularly Goya and Rembrandt.

The Kenya voices project was compiled on a three week tour of Kenya making portraits while a consultant from Human Rights Watch took testimony from officials, activists, victims and witnesses of the post election violence in 2008.
